Research Careers in Europe | INSIGHT Policy Workshop
January 20, 2027 @ 10:00 am – 12:00 pm
How can we make research careers in Europe more attractive and sustainable? What needs to change in policy, institutional practices and cooperation between academia, industry and public authorities?
The INSIGHT project invites stakeholders to an interactive workshop exploring the policies and governance approaches that can improve research career conditions and strengthen sustainable talent ecosystems across Europe.

About the workshop
Supporting researchers requires action beyond individual institutions. Research funding, organisational practices and cooperation between sectors all influence the opportunities available to researchers and the conditions in which they develop their careers.
This workshop will bring together policy perspectives and practical experience from academia, industry and public authorities to explore how research careers in Europe can be better supported.
Participants will examine key findings and policy recommendations from the INSIGHT project and reflect on the European Charter for Researchers as a framework for improving institutional practices.
Through moderated discussions, participants will identify existing barriers, explore enabling conditions and consider practical policy measures to strengthen research career development and cross-sector cooperation.
What will the workshop explore?
The workshop will focus on four key questions:
- How can policy and governance support more attractive and sustainable research careers?
- What institutional practices can improve research career development and support?
- How can universities, industry and public authorities strengthen cooperation to create better opportunities for researchers?
- Which policy measures can contribute to sustainable talent ecosystems across Europe?
Who should attend?
The workshop welcomes policymakers, representatives of public authorities, research funding bodies, universities, research organisations, companies, employers’ associations, HR professionals, innovation intermediaries and other stakeholders involved in research careers and talent development.
Participants will have the opportunity to exchange perspectives, share practical experience and contribute recommendations for improving research career support and strengthening academia–industry cooperation.
The outcomes will inform the INSIGHT Talent Ecosystem Roadmap and the project’s wider policy recommendations.
